Boys and Girls Club.

History

Positive Action is a proven program for Boys & Girls Clubs and other afterschool programs. For more than 15 years, local clubs have found the Positive Action philosophy and its materials complement the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs and help local clubs streamline their program content.

In 2015, the success of local Clubs caught the attention of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the parent organization that supports the local clubs. Through a cooperative agreement between Positive Action and Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the program now qualifies for a variety of federal and state funding sources. This unique agreement continues to support hundreds of local clubs and provides a rich and meaningful experience for thousands of youth nationwide.

Cooperation

Some local clubs have enjoyed an effective working relationship and collaborate with their local schools and districts where counselors and other administrators are able to identify youth that are at-risk. When aligned, this relationship can create new and effective options for implementation design, where at-risk youth can find a safe and nurturing environment after the bell rings.

Funding

As part of an ongoing funding effort supported by the U.S. Department of Justice, Positive Action conducts an annual Boys & Girls Club webinar broadcast that coincides with an application window. Boys & Girls Clubs of America is the pass-through entity and coordinates with Positive Action for the broadcast. Each year, broadcast details will be provided for prospective Boys & Girls Clubs for the upcoming funding cycle. Below you will find information about the previous broadcast.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

A Frequently Asked Questions section has been added based on the questions from 2016 & 2017 sessions:

How does this program work with clinical behavior disorders such as ADHA and ADD?-

School-based users have enjoyed great success when using Positive Action with these populations. We have also been endorsed by CASE for special and general education populations.

What is the cost of the program?+

The cost of the program depends on the scale and nature of the implementation. A digital-only implementation will consist of a license for Pasela per user and per product. One product is $240 per year for a user. We also strongly recommend the purchase of a Starter Kit that provides important physical materials such as posters, gameboards and other reinforcement materials that complement the implementation. The cost of a starter kit depends on the grade level. Generally, the costs of a starter kit are more expensive in the early elementary grades as they include many craft items and puppets.

How often do we have to use Positive Action to achieve fidelity?+

You can achieve fidelity by delivering 2 -4 lessons a week.

How soon can we expect delivery of the materials?+

Most orders will be fulfilled within one or two weeks. We will notify customers if there is a delay in fulfillment.

Is there a list of clubs that are currently using Positive Action that can be contacted?+

We do have a list of clubs that are currently using Positive Action and we’re working with them to accommodate referral requests. We will make more information available soon. We do have several videos available from clubs that are currently using Positive Action. Contact us for more information.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America will reimburse clubs for the kits that have been preselected for the FY2015 OJP grant opportunity. Clubs will need to include those expenses in their proposed budget for the grant and then include the itemized invoices/receipts with their financial reports requesting reimbursement.
