From: Pete Peterson, Juvenile Detention Officer, Pathfinder LPS
“I wanted to share some of my thoughts regarding the ‘Happy Circle.’ I have been a Juvenile Detention Officer for the Lancaster County Youth Services System for almost 14 years. Obviously, I have experienced a lot in those years. One of the more pleasant ones is getting involved in the “Happy Circle” with Mrs. Nancy Campbell. It has been so interesting, and rewarding, observing the reactions from our residents to the “Happy Circle.” New residents moan and groan at their first Happy Circle. When they see the reactions of their peers, they almost always get quite involved!
It is interesting, and rewarding, to watch our residents express feelings in front of their peers. It is interesting listening to our residents shape some deep, often repressed feelings. Watching the acceptance, the understanding, with out judgment, is pretty amazing to see, to experience. I have run out of paper! Bottom line is: this should be included in any curriculum, in any school setting, at any age! I have nothing but positive comments about this program!”
