Positive Action for Bullying Prevention
From: Sharon Maulding, Education Counselor, Therapist and Positive Behaviors Kindle Success Grant Coordinator
I am writing to share my support of this program for Bullying Prevention. I have used the program in a variety of ways for over 15 years and attest to the decrease in bullying type behaviors in classroom, on the playground, in communities and in homes.
The message is woven throughout the program to treat others with the dignity and respect with which you wish to be treated by others. Empathy is also taught throughout the program which researchers tell us is the largest component in any anti-bullying program. Those who will not or cannot put themselves in another person's place mentally or emotionally are the ones vulnerable to becoming a bully. Please see the following lessons in the different Grade Levels for confirmation.
The cited lessons deal with bullying in many forms and in many places. Some of the lessons cited deal with issues that will aid the victims in increasing their coping skills as well as courageous steps that will help children face the variety of fears that intimidate them to become either the victim or join in the bullying behaviors.
